Obstetric ultrasound - Alona Wilson

The medical field has had many technological advances over the years. I am not concerned about talking about all the different technologies that have developed over the years or the many uses which technology has in the medical field. I am only interested right now in the technology behind obstetric ultrasonography.

Ian Donald, a Scottish physician, was one of the pioneers of ultrasound use in the medical field. It wasn’t until years later that ultrasound was used in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Obstetric ultrasound has had a significant impact on the development of diagnostic ultrasound technology.  Evidence indicates that diagnostic is safe for the unborn child which is different than radiography, which is used for x-rays. However, there have not been scientific tests done to confirm the safety of obstetric ultrasounds so they are not normally done unless deemed medically necessary.

Why am I interested in Obstetric ultrasound? The reason is because I recently found out that my daughter is pregnant with my first grandchild. I went to her doctor’s appointment the week before St. Patrick’s Day and saw my granddaughter in my daughter’s womb. It is amazing to see the life of an unborn child moving around inside the womb. You can make out all the features of the child, the fingers, the toes, the head, the stomach, and if you are lucky even the sex of the baby. The Doppler Sonography can be used to evaluate the beats of the fetal heart to check for abnormalities. When I observed my daughter’s ultrasound, it seemed like everything was okay without any trace of abnormalities.

The following pictures’ are of my daughter’s baby girl, Alona Wilson. Isn’t it amazing how that at just 17 and a half weeks you can tell what the sex of a baby is before she is born?

I have had ultrasounds myself before but never really new the history behind the technology so I did a little research to find out more about Obstetric ultrasound. Medical uses for ultrasound didn’t begin until about 1958 and not in obstetrics until 1963 or later. In the days when my parents and grandparents there was no such thing as obstetric ultrasound so you never knew the sex of the baby until he or she was born.

In our society today, some parents choose to find out the sex of the baby before birth and some parents choose to wait until after the baby is born. My daughter choice to find out prior to birth baby’s sex and we found out that the baby is a girl. I wanted the baby to be a girl, not just because girls can be a wonderfully blessing to a mother but also so later on she could realize the and understand everything which she put me through. That might seem mean but it was how I felt when I was praying for her baby to be a girl. The sneaking a boy or boys in and out of her bedroom window, the disrespect she showed towards me and how it hurt me. A child never understands the lessons that a parent is trying to teach them until they have a child of their own.
I just never wanted my daughter to get pregnant and have a child until after she had finished college and was self-sufficient. A parent’s dreams for their child or children are not always the dreams of the child. I know this wasn’t the dream I had for my daughter but this is the reality that my daughter has chosen. It is a reality that I cannot change but can only try to accept and pray for her and the life of my granddaughter, Alona Wilson.

March 25, 2013 - Read Job 21 - 28

March 25, 2013 - Read Job 21 - 28

Job stayed on God's paths, he followed His ways and did not turn aside. He did not depart from His commands but trusted God's Words more than daily food.

Job tried to make his friends see that questions about God, about life, and about justice are not as simple as they seem. Job declares his confidence in his integrity and God's justice. If we are true believers, all oursins are forgiven because of what Christ did on the cross in our behalf. God is greater than our feelings. His forgiveness and cleansing is sufficient; they overrule our doubts. If God has forgiven and accepted us, we are forgiven indeed.

Do people know where to find wisdom? Do you know where to find wisdom? Do I know where to find wisdom? Where can they find understanding? Where can you or I find understanding?

God says " The fear of the Lord is true wisdom, to forsake evil is real understanding."

Wisdom is found in the fear of the Lord and forsaking ( doing away with, getting rid of) evil is the source for real understranding. Do we fear the Lord? Do we put aside all evil in our lives? Only in the Lord will we find wisdom and understanding. They cannot be perceived if evil remains in our hearts and in our lives.

March 24, 2013 - Isaiah 12:6(TNIV)

"Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you." The Israelites welcomed the Jesus into Jerusalem ------
they welcomed Him home. Rejoice Jesus is with us, in our lives, and in our hearts.

We Still Trust in God

This is an excellent video about still trusting in God in America. Radio stations won't play it because it is "politically incorrect". Our current president thinks it offends to many people. I believe it is past time for Americans to take a stand. We need to inform our radio stations and our government that it doesn't offend us and the we, as Americans, still trust in God her in America.

March 5, 2013 Job 11 - 20 (NLT)

March 5, 2013: Read Job 11 - 20

Job is undergoing sufferings which were allowed by God. Three of Job's friends take turns harassing him regarding his suffering. They are trying to convince him that he deserved all the suffering that he was undergoing. Zophar, one of Job's friends speaks out in anger, lashing out at Job. He tells Job that God should render  even more punishment upon him. He claimed that Job was going through all his trials because of sin. Job continually claims his innocence, his blamelessness. This, however, did not apply to Job's current situation. God knows and sees everything we do. He knows our every thoughts and our every actions. Everything comes from God, every life and breath are in the hands of God.Wisdom and understanding can only be found in God. When we look for guidance for our decisions, we must recognize that God's wisdom is far superior to any the world has to offer.
Job's friends thought he was being justly punished for his sins. Job always claimed that he was sinless, his heart was pure. His friends were misguided and ignored the vast differences in human circumstances. We must be careful and compassionate in how we apply biblical judgments toward others, we must be slow to judge. It is not our place to judge, only God's place to judge others. No matter how unfair you present world seems, God offers the hope of our being in His presence for eternity.
Throughout all of Job's sufferings, he has continually maintained his innocence and has appealed his circumstances, his sufferings, directly to God.
Today, Jesus Christ intercedes on our behalf before God the Father above all. We can rest in Him and realize we have nothing to fear. Job knows that his redeemer lives, that he will see God. Do you know that you will one day see God?

March 4, 2013 Read Romans 13:13-14

March 4, 2013: Read Romans 13: 13-14 (NLT)

"Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don't participate in wild parties    and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and         immoral living, or quarreling and jealousy. Instead,  clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus   Christ. And don't let yourself think about ways to     indulge your evil desires."                                      Why does Paul list fighting and jealousy along with   the gross and obvious sins of drunkenness and         immorality. The reason is similar to that of Jesus in   His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), Paul         considers attitudes to be just as important as           actions. Just as hatred can lead to murder, so can     jealousy lead to strife and lust can lead to adultery.  How do we clothe ourselves with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ?
     1) Identify with Christ through Baptism
-- Demonstrate love and devotion to Christ
-- Shows our alliance with the death,
           burial, and resurrection of Jesus
     2) Exempilfy the qualities Jesus showed while He
dwelt among us here on earth
--Qualities of love, humility, truth, and sevice
     3) Avoid situations that open the door to
         satisfying sinful desires

Read Job Chapters 1 - 10:

Job was a blameless man of integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil. What does it mean to have integrity? To have integrity means that you have a quality of being honest and have strong moral principles, moral uprightness. How strong are our morals? Are we truly honest or do we let a lie slip from our mouths on a few occasions?
The Lord allowed Job to be tested by Satan. Throughout all the testing Job still praised the Lord, he did not blame God. Do we blame God when trials come our way or do we praise Him? Job cries out during his suffering. Job is outraged by criticisms of his friends. His friends were criticizing God for everything that Job was going through, all the testing. Job was in pain when God allowed Satan to attack is body. The more Job was tested the more he began to cry out to God. He began to question why God was allowing him pain and misery to be brought upon him. Why did God allow Job to suffer so much when he was a blameless man? Job honored God throughout his life. Do we question God? Do we ever ask God, why me? Do we question God's reason for the events and trials He allows in our lives?

Read Genesis 11 - 17
The Tower of Babel was a great architectural structure built to show off man's greatness. It was not built to honor God.Our monuments we buildmay not be the same as in the days of the Tower of Babel but we sometimes still fancy things as more important than God? What takes our focus off of God? Our homes? Our cars? Our jobs? We should never think more highly of ourselves then of God.
God made a covenant with Abram to make him a great nation. God told Abram to take his family and go to a land that He would show Him. When Abram arrived in Canaan, the Lord said that He was giving the land to him and his descendants. Abram dedicated the land after building an altar to God for prayer and worship and as a reminder of God's promise to bless him. Abram followed God's leading without questioning the why"s, where's, and how's. Do we have blind faith inGod to obey His every word or do we question His words with unbelief? Do we ask God why He was us to follow His plan or do we ignore God's leading and go about doing our own thing?
When Lot was in trouble, Abram was right there to help him out. Are we there when our "brothers/sisters" are in need of help? Abram had courage and was triumphant in battle through the power of God.
God wants us to depend on Him, to trust Him, and to have faith in Him. God doesn't want us to think more highly of ourselves than we do of Him. We are nothing without Him. Is our faith pleasing to God?
In Chapter 17, God changed Abram's name to Abraham. Abraham's responsibility was to obey the covenant that God had made with him. God also changed the name of Abraham's wife Sarai to Sarah and promised to bless her and give her a son. Abraham questioned God and laughed in disbelief. Both Abraham and Sarah were up in years and Abraham thought that Sarah was too old to be able to give him a son. Abraham questioned whether God could make it happen or not. Have you ever questioned God? Do you act on faith or laugh at God in unbelief?

February 28, 2013
Read Genesis Chapters 6 - 10. God made a covenant (a promise) with us. God does not break His promises and He is our salvation for all time. He keeps us safe all throughout our relationship with Him. Through Noah's example, God gives us a challenge - that we should live, in acceptance of God's Grace, an entire lifetime of obedience and gratitude. Do not worry about thing which you have no control over, but instead concentrate on what God has given you to do and leave everything else to God.

Today has been busy, first off wasa a ride to York Technical College to take two exams. One was in Accounting 101 - Accounting Principles and the other was in Accounting 240 - Computerized Accounting. I feel like I was able to do really well on the exams. In between exams, Ms. Emily Salisbury and I had brunch at Bob Evans Restaurant in Rock Hill, SC. We had an enjoyable meal together. After my second exam, we went to Sonic on Celanese in Rock Hill, SC for a shake and a hug from my daughter. I miss my daughter being in my home and I feel lonely most of the time now. She has been out of my home for almost two months now. My home feels empty without her here. It'd been just the two of us for the last 13 and 1/2 years. Last night, I read five chapters in Genesis from my new NLT Bible. The NLT, New Living Translation, makes reading the Bible just as easy as ready any Christian fiction novel. I believe that I'm going to enjoy reading my new Bible.
Read Genesis Chapters 1-5:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. God is stating that He is the Creator, He is in control of the world, the universe. It states heavens, so how many heavens are there. It implies that there is more than one heaven but only one earth. What does it mean to have more than one heaven. Does the term heaven also refer to the galaxy where the stars and planets exist as well as to the Heaven in which God is preparing a place for Christians one day? God is eternal, He existed before the world began and still exists today and will continue to exist in the future. We are valuable in God's eyes. We are more important than the animals. How can one tell this? God put man to rule over the animals, He put us in charge, responsible, for taking care of all the animals that exist on the earth. Human worth is not based on our possessions but on our being made in the image of God. We are unique in this fact, no other creation from God was or is made in His likeness but the human race. Why did He make us in His image? He made us in His image because He loves us. When we criticize ourselves, we are criticizing the work of God implying that He made a mistake. God doesn't make mistakes. God made us and has given us our abilities. How can we criticize what God has made and what He has given us? How God we judge God's creation and say it is not good when God Himself declared HIs creation good? All our tasks should be honoring to God. I know we all make mistakes, myself included, but there's where God's forgiveness comes into the picture. We  must only ask Him and He will forgive us. The good thing is that He not only forgives us but He also forgets, wipes our sins away as if there never existed. Praise the Lord! It is important to note that genealogies were included in the Bible to confirm the Bible's promise of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. Genealogies point out that we are important to God as individuals. Each person is a valuable and unique creation of God.
